Traumatic Stress Exposure is Inevitable.
The Harm is Not.
Those who hold communities together during and after a disaster strikes experience traumatic stress exposure that standard crisis response was not designed to address.
Lodestar Second Responders™ deploy when the crisis ends — because we know the impact of the exposure has just begun.
The exposure may be unavoidable; the harm that results doesn’t have to be.
We can help. Let’s talk.
Lodestar Second Responders (L2R) are the professionals we serve. Physicians. Psychologists. Attorneys. Nurses. Military Veterans. Educators. First Responders.
We’ve been there. We know this work from the inside.
Who do we support?
L2R is designed for any organization where high-dose traumatic stress exposure is a condition of the work — and whose people need to keep functioning through it.
L2R teams work with:
• First responder organizations — fire, EMS, law enforcement
• Public health, state and municipal government agencies
• Military and veteran-serving institutions
• Emergency management and disaster recovery teams
• Any organization navigating the aftermath of a mass trauma event
If your people responded — and need to be able to keep on responding — we are here for you.
What We Do
Lodestar Second Responder teams are fully self-contained, able to deploy directly into organizations or communities in the wake of traumatic events without disrupting operational recovery efforts.
We don't wait for people to break.
We show up while systems are still absorbing the impact, and we do the work that prevents traumatic stress exposure from becoming embodied harm.
Second Responder engagements are not a workshop or a training; our teams ARE the intervention. We bring a discipline of presence, and a set of skills that must be enacted moment by moment in high-threat, high-complexity spaces. The process is structured to stabilize individuals, restore coherence to teams, and build internal capacity for what comes next.
No comparable model builds peer-led capacity from day one and then deliberately transfers ownership before we leave. That transfer is not an afterthought. It is the design.
What This Is
(and What It’s Not)
L2R engagement is not therapy. It's not counseling. It's not a one-time debrief.
L2R is professionally facilitated, peer-centered process grounded in Lodestar’s leading-edge frameworks and the neuroscience of traumatic stress disruption.
L2R is designed to create structured spaces where:
Harm exposure is disrupted before it becomes encoded
Nervous systems settle and co-regulate
Normalization of process provides relief & understanding
People reconnect with peers, purpose, and themselves
Peer leaders emerge and are trained to sustain the work
There is no forced storytelling. No pressure to process emotion. No expectation of catharsis. Participation is always a choice.
What is required is organizational commitment and the understanding that a single session is not our model — sustained, phased, professional engagement is.
This is the work that keeps your people in the work.
The Power of Skilled Engagement
Lodestar professionals bring leading-edge stress and trauma disruptive techniques - a proactive approach based in the neuroscience of threat response and the restoration of equilibrium.
Coupled with deliberate normalization of the embodied reactivity that accompanies high-acuity and prolonged exposure, our process allows for successful, collaborative navigation of harmful experiences.
Lodestar’s multi-disciplinary Second Responder teams are comprised of highly trained professionals with decades of experience who serve as an immediate bridge, providing essential support of the mental health, wellbeing and operational readiness of any first responder community.
We believe the stress and harm experienced
by our first responders is not an individual burden, but a collective one.
We know that healing happens in community.
And we believe that every first responder deserves a second responder.
"We are a more resilient organization today than we were just a few short months ago and have continued peer-led sessions using Lodestar tools."

Field Tested and Proven
L2R has deployed in the wake of natural disasters, mass-casualty and traumatic deaths, sentinel incidents, and both small and large-scale organizational crises.
Lodestar recently was challenged with delivering a six-month scope of 2R engagement in six weeks.
We delivered. On budget, at scale, and without disrupting ongoing recovery operations.
600+ | Individuals reached
250+ | Faculty-led sessions delivered
16 | Departments served simultaneously
>50% | Participant engagement in multiple sessions
WHAT THOSE NUMBERS DON'T SHOW
By the time Lodestar departed, peer-led groups were already running independently. Staff were using shared language and tools without prompting. Department leaders had committed to ongoing peer group practices. The work continued — because that was the design.
How We Engage
L2R engagements are tailored to the scale, urgency, and op-tempo of each organization. We are fully operationally independent, requiring no logistical support from you; we adapt to your schedules, and deploy directly into your workplaces.
Engagements are structured in three deliberate phases:
Immediate high-acuity deployment for stabilization, assessment, and establishment
Sustained engagement over multiple weeks for group development, psychoeducation, peer leader identification, and capacity building
Phased handover — training internal peer leaders to sustain the work after we leave
That handover is not a courtesy. It is the point. Every L2R engagement is designed from day one to make itself unnecessary — leaving behind an internally led, trauma-responsive system that continues without us.
Lodestar offers pre-standing agreements for organizations that recognize rapid-activation is not about if challenges will come, but whether they’ll be ready.
