Service Description

This deeply experiential professional development program is focused on developing the advanced skills needed to lead through and beyond the stress, burnout, and trauma of these times while simultaneously restoring the capacity and well-being of leaders. Class size is limited to optimize each participant's experience, so please reserve your seat ASAP. BRAVE leadership is meticulously designed, representing thousands of hours of research, content creation, and successful delivery across multiple industries. Lodestar faculty are seasoned professionals with decades of experience, and the program provides significant, real-time and ongoing senior faculty engagement at a 6:1 ratio to ensure participant growth, development, proficiency with materials, integration of new learning, and ample skills practice. Those tasked with leadership in America have faced unprecedented toxic stress and trauma, and endured intense criticism, scrutiny, and threats, all while navigating uncertainty, profound organizational disruptions, and significantly increased workloads. More than half the public health workforce reports suffering the consequences of prolonged exposure to toxic stress, and more than 20% of public health employees report their mental health as only “fair” or “poor.” And, like individuals, organizations can also suffer from traumatic stress. This may be the result of a single devastating event, or the compounding effect of multiple events and the cumulative impact that is the nature of our work. The impact of toxic stress and harm are amplified by chronic distrust often manifest as: - Communication breakdown - Demoralization and detachment - Burnout and exhaustion - Compassion fatigue - Disconnection and disengagement - Recruitment challenges and uncivil workplace behavior - Career dissatisfaction, increased attrition and early retirement The disruption and mitigation of individual and organizational harm begins with deliberate cultivation of trauma-responsive cultures. Training participants will gain understanding of the neuroscience and physiology underpinning threat activation, and the impact of toxic stress and trauma on the workforce. Our senior faculty facilitate the learning in small groups, the practice of advanced skills needed to disrupt harmful interactions and systems, and guide participants into the essential work of rebuilding interpersonal and organizational connection, trust, and psychological safety.
