You didn’t go into medicine to become this.

We entered medicine believing it was a calling.

Now our days run on Epic chat, pajama-charting, anonymous reporting systems, and 15-minute appointments stacked like cordwood. Meanwhile, the collegial relationships we once relied on - and which supported our patients by proxy - are gone.

Our overwhelm, exhaustion, and depletion are not character flaws. They are the predictable outcome of sustained traumatic stress exposure over time.

The good news? What is predictable is preventable…

There is a skill set no one taught us during all those years of training. Neuroscience-grounded, sustainable, repeatable, and one that holds across professions and across differences.

Give us an hour of your time. Bring your coffee and all your skepticism. Let's remind each other of who we meant to be when we started -- and put a foot on a path that leads us back.

Meet Your Hosts

Kemia M. Sarraf, MD, MPH, CCC, TIPC

Dr. Kemia Sarraf (“Dr. K” ) completed her Medical Degree and Master of Public Health at the University of Utah School of Medicine, and her residency in Internal Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine.  The arc of her more than two decade career has included patient care, public health programming and development, nonprofit leadership, multiple board positions in both the public and private sector, and trauma-mitigation work in medical education, and private business ownership.

Dr. K's deep and expansive background in public health, trauma, and a trauma-informed approach to professional coaching led her to develop a unique paradigm honed for professionals working in environments of chronic toxic stress.

Michael Hersh, MD, TIPC

Dr. Michael Hersh is a Gastroenterologist, husband, father, podcaster, and physician coach,. He coaches physicians on work-life balance, stress management, reducing overwhelm, and feeling more present at home and less annoyed at work.

Dr. Hersh helps physicians stop feeling trapped in medicine so that they can finally enjoy the life they worked so hard to build. He also co-hosts a podcast called Doctors Living Deliberately, highlighting physicians changing medicine by learning to live life with intention and purpose.

This LIVE webinar is for:

Mid- to late-career healthcare leaders and public health professionals navigating high-stakes environments and chronic toxic stress

Physicians, clinicians and healthcare leaders who need practical trauma-responsive skills they can use with colleagues, patients, and themselves.

Certified coaches and healthcare professionals who want an expanded skill set for trauma activation that is showing up in clients and patients

Anyone considering Lodestar’s live, dual accredited TMMC™, developed by clinicians and leaders for clinicians and leaders

Most of us entered medicine as a calling.

Somewhere along the way it became a chronic injury: the bottomless inbox, endless pre-authorization arguments, ten minutes with a patient who was angry before we opened the door (and who truly needs and deserves an hour of our time) and the realization that the very colleagues we once turned to have left, retired, or are showing up in ways that are out-of-character. We cannot understand why people behave the way they do without understanding the impact of chronic stress, power imbalances, unresolved harm, and cultures that reward toughness over honesty.

Does the system need to change? Of course. And since most of that change is outside of our immediate control, it is unwise to tie our wellbeing and growth to system changes that may not come. How do we shift to building capacity even in the midst of traumatic stress exposure?

It isn’t easy. But none of us went into medicine looking for the easy path. Skills in trauma-responsive engagement provide a starting point for the path back to who we meant to be.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • Learning Objective 1: Describe how sustained traumatic stress exposure moves along the stress-trauma continuum and produces predictable nervous-system changes over time.

  • Learning Objective 2: Analyze how proximity, connection, and trust among colleagues disrupt traumatic stress exposure and protect both the physician and the patient.

  • Learning Objective 3: Apply the Lodestar 5Ns™ to recognize and disrupt stress activation in real time - in ourselves, our colleagues, and our patients.

We’ll conclude with a 30-minute Q&A with faculty to address your questions.

Lodestar’s Trauma Mitigation Master Class (TMMC) provides essential knowledge and skills for today’s healthcare professionals:

  1. Trauma activation is already in the room. Traditional wellness programs and standard coaching do not prepare you to recognize and respond to toxic stress in patients, colleagues, or yourself.

  2. Neuroscience-backed mitigation techniques that hold under load. We provide more than insight. TMMC teaches practical techniques to regulate the nervous system, stay grounded in difficult work, and lead with more clarity and courage.

  3. Built for high-demand professions. 20 hours of live online instruction, 8 interactive modules, 16 participants per cohort.

  4. Dual accreditation that matches this program. 22 ICF CCE credits and 20 AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits.

  5. A defined next credential. Successful completion of TMMC allows you to sit for Lodestar’s Trauma Informed Professional Coach (TIPC™) certification.

Testimonials & Experiences

  • “I finally had language for what was happening in the room; in me, in my colleagues, and in patients who were already activated before I walked in. This was not another wellness talk. It was a skill I used the next day.”

    — TMMC Participant, physician

  • “The small cohort mattered. We practiced staying grounded when the conversation got hard, instead of just talking about burnout. I left with tools I can use on the unit, not a binder I will never open.”

    — TMMC Participant, healthcare leader

  • “I used to treat my own depletion as a character flaw. TMMC showed me it was a predictable nervous-system response to sustained traumatic stress — and gave me a way to interrupt it in real time.”

    — TMMC Participant, mid-career physician

  • “Proximity and connection stopped being soft ideas. I can see how trust and safety among colleagues protects the physician and the patient in the same moment.”

    — TMMC Participant, public health professional
